CINCINNATI — A coach with the Cincinnati United Soccer Club will receive coaching awards from both the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association (OSYSA) and the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA).

Garrett Szabo won the state and the midwest regional award for the 2020 Boys' Competitive Coach of the Year from the OSYSA and the USYSA in November, 2020. He will formally be given these awards at the USYSA virtual gala on Jan. 14.

"Garrett’s innovation, leadership, and love of teaching soccer equipped him to pioneer uncharted territory when the Covid-19 pandemic hit," officials with the OSYSA wrote online. "Garrett was a rock through all the disappointment and did everything he could to convey a sense of normalcy, consistency, and safety to the boys during a time of isolation."

Szabo is one of four regional winners in the running for the national award. The national winner will be announced at the gala on Jan. 14.

"Proud to call you part of our family, Coach!" officials with the Cincinnati United Soccer Club wrote. "Keep teaching the next generation, who will one (day) follow in your footsteps!"
