Area basketball teams to participate in first-ever Midwest King Classic

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Sixteen high school basketball teams from the region will participate in the inaugural Midwest King Classic, a tournament that honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Games begin at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 19, and at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the Wade E. Miller Arena at Middletown High School.

In addition to competing on the hardwood, participants will create an exhibit based on a favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quote. Exhibits will be on display throughout the Midwest King Classic. Students from one school will receive a pizza party and $1,000 toward student development.

Saturday, Jan. 19

  • Middletown vs. Western Hills (Girls) -- CANCELED
  • 2:00 p.m. – Covington Catholic vs. Elder (Boys) -- PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED FOR 6:15 P.M.
  • 3:30 p.m. – Sycamore vs. CHCA (Boys) -- PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED FOR 8 P.M.

Sunday, Jan. 20

  • 1:00 p.m. – Hughes vs. Urbana (Boys)
  • 2:45 p.m. – Middletown vs. Crestwood (Boys)
  • 4:30 p.m. – LaSalle vs. Thurgood Marshall (Boys)
  • 6:15 p.m. – Deer Park vs. Purcell Marian (Boys)
  • 8:00 p.m. – Moeller vs. Lakota East (Boys)

Event proceeds benefit Kids2Camp.
