CINCINNATI -- Mason Manta Rays standout swimmer Jake Fosterannounced his verbal commitment to the University of Texas on his Instagram page Monday.
“Jake ultimately selected the University of Texas based on the incredible team, coaches, facilities and academic opportunities that will best help him achieve his goals in and out of the water,” Mason Manta Rays coach Ken Heis told WCPO.
The Longhorns are the reigning three-time NCAA Division I men’s national champions. Texas has an NCAA-leading 13 national titles.
Foster, a St. Xavier junior, has had several highlights during his swimming career with the Manta Rays.
He was named to the U.S. National Junior Team (2017-18). He was one of nine Manta Rays who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2016. Foster competed in Omaha as a 15-year-old.
He qualified last summer for the 200-meter breaststroke finals in the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin in a nationally televised event on the NBC Sports Network.
Foster was a U.S. Junior National Champion in the 400 individual medley long course yards and 200 breaststroke short course yards in 2017. Foster was named the SwimSwam 15-16 year-old Runner-Up Swimmer of the Year in 2017.
Foster was selected in 2015 to attend USA Swimming’s National Select Camp. He has broken numerous Ohio Swimming Records, has been a member of multiple National Age Group Records and has current World Rankings in several events.
Foster is also a standout student, being named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2017 and he was selected into the National Honors Society.
