Steve Gentry was named the Deer Park boys’ basketball coach Thursday afternoon.
Gentry, the Shroder boys’ coach the past four years, is 120-46 overall, according to a Deer Park news release.
Gentry is one of the most successful Cincinnati Public Schools coaches. He led Shroder to two regional final appearances. He also coached at Withrow, where he led the Tigers to an undefeated regular season.
“He has been instrumental in developing players and has led many to play in college at all levels in Divisions I-III,” Deer Park athletic director Eric Taylor said. “Coach Gentry is also very active in AAU basketball and coaches that teams that compete across the country.”
Gentry, a former Xavier player, is a Withrow graduate. He was a three-time team leader in assists and the outstanding defensive player at Xavier. He later played professionally in China, Holland, Israel, Japan and Poland.
“We are extremely excited to add coach Gentry to our staff,” Taylor said. “Steve brings tremendous experience as a basketball coach and his passion for program building is sure to give extraordinary opportunities for Deer Park student-athletes.”
