CINCINNATI -- Fans from Elder High School and Colerain High School are pushing to have Saturday's playoff game moved from Mason High School to Nippert Stadium at the University of Cincinnati, according to Ohio High School Athletic Association officials.
While the game is still scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Mason's Dwire Field, vocal fans could possibly get their way and have the game moved: UC President Santa Ono announced Monday that the university will waive their rental fee for the playoff game.
Tim Stried, Director of Information Services for the OHSAA, said Ono's decision to waive the fee "doesn't fully change the scenario."
"We're still discussing different options with both schools," Stried said. "Right now, the game is still scheduled for Mason."
According to the schools' websites, Nippert Stadium at UC has a capacity of 35,000; Mason's Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium has a capacity of 6,069.
Requests to move the game were made by fans only and no official petition was filed by either school, Stried said. Most outcry, however, came from Elder fans.
WCPO will update this story as OHSAA, Elder and Colerain decide on a final location for the game.
