COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Colerain senior running back/defensive back Syncere Jones announced his verbal commitment to Miami University.
“Big-time get for Miami!” Colerain coach Tom Bolden said in a text message Friday morning.
Jones, who is 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds, is the third Colerain player in the 2018 class to verbally commit to the RedHawks. Right tackle Rusty Feth (6-4, 315) and linebacker Luke Bolden (6-2, 227) committed earlier this year.
Jones is a starting tailback and cornerback for the Cardinals (1-0), who play at St. Xavier (1-0) at 7 p.m. today. Jones led the team in receiving and scored eight touchdowns in 2017. He also had two interceptions and had over 40 tackles.
Tom Bolden said Jones is the best all-around athlete on this year’s team and ranks in the top three all-time most athletic players he's either coached or played with over the years since the 1980s. Whether it's running, cutting, jumping or receiving, Jones is in an elite category.
"He's in that realm with (former All-American) Eugene (Clifford) and (former standout quarterback) Deshaunte (Jones)," Tom Bolden told WeAreColerain.com in the preseason.
