CINCINNATI - Mason junior forward Sammie Puisis was named the Division I Girls' Basketball Player of the Year Thursday afternoon.
Puisis, a Florida State verbal commit, highlighted the annual All-Southwest District girls basketball teams as selected by a media panel from the district. The teams are based upon the regular season only.
Puisis had 17 points Wednesday night in the Comets' 53-32 win over Mount Notre Dame in a Division I regional semifinal at Trent Arena.
Lakota West senior guard/forward Abby Prohaska (Notre Dame signee), named to the first team, helped the Firebirds past Walnut Hills in the first semifinal of the night.
Mason (23-3) plays Lakota West (25-2) in the regional final Saturday night in Kettering.
The all-state teams along with Ms. Basketball will be announced next week. The state tournament is March 15-17 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
