FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- Fairfield High School football coach Jason Krause thought his All-American offensive lineman’s tweet was innocuous.
But in the world of social media anything is open to interpretation.
When ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit took to Twitter Tuesday to criticize the tweets of two high-profile high school football players including five-star recruit Jack Carman, the Twitterverse had a field day.

The topic was Ohio State senior quarterback J.T. Barrett. After Saturday’s home loss to Oklahoma, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said he would not consider a quarterback change.
Carman, who is rated the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2018 class, tweeted Monday he visited Ohio Stadium Saturday night and supported Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Dwayne Haskins getting some work in a game.

Harrisburg (Pa.) 2018 defensive end Micah Parsons, a five-star recruit, was more forward in his support of Haskins. Patrick Murphy, a 247Sports reporter, tweeted Meyer would not consider a change at quarterback.
Parsons linked that report and said he would consider a change; he also mentioned his support of Haskins.

When Eleven Warriors caught wind of Carman’s tweet Monday, it tweeted that “Ohio State’s top two uncommitted targets have now advocated for a QB change.”
That’s when Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback and Centerville High School product, chimed in.
Krause didn’t quite see the situation through the same lens. He believes Carman was advocating for Haskins like the tweet mentioned and nothing else.
Krause's message to his Fairfield team is to always be careful on social media and watch what you say.
“We talk about social media all the time,” Krause said.
Carman, who has scheduled his five official visits, will take an official visit to Ohio State Oct. 28-29. It remains to be seen what impact Herbstreit’s tweet has, if any, on Carman’s decision-making process.
Krause was the recipient of another social media situation this week with another one of his top recruits, Fairfield senior defensive end Malik Vann. On Wednesday morning, UC football coach Luke Fickell called Krause to request clarification on an erroneous report that surfaced.
Apparently, the report linked Vann (UC commit) to an official visit scheduled for Michigan State Sept. 23. The reality is he will attend the Notre Dame at Michigan State game in support of 2017 Fairfield graduate Josiah Scott.
