CINCINNATI -- Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was released from a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday after an injury during a game in Cincinnati led to him undergoing spine surgery.
Shazier posted the news on his Instagram page.
Shazier's legs went limp after making a head-first tackle on wide receiver Josh Malone during the Bengals-Steelers game Dec. 5. He was carted off the field and hospitalized at University of Cincinnati Medical Center before being moved to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
At UMPC, neurosurgeons and team physicians performed spinal stabilization surgery on Shazier. He will continue outpatient therapy, according to the hospital.
In his Instagram post, Shazier thanked his teammates, family, medical staff and others who have supported him since his injury.
