CINCINNATI — The Bengals waived fourth-year guard Christian Westerman and 10 other players Friday as NFL teams whittle active rosters to the 53-player limit by 4 p.m. Saturday.

The first wave of cuts also included fifth-year cornerback Tony Lippett and second-year safety Demetrious Cox. The Bengals also reached an injury settlement with Christian Ringo, a fourth-year defensive tackle.

The Bengals must drop 26 more players from their active roster by Saturday's deadline. Some will go on the injured list. The Bengals currently have 80 players, including TE Moritz Böhringer, an International Player Pathway Program participant who has a roster exemption.

Westerman left the team on his own two weeks ago and returned five days later. Coaches said he was dealing with a personal issue, but no official explanation was given. He did not play in the final two preseason games.

Also waived Friday were:

  • LB Curtis Akins
  • C Kirk Barron
  • LS Dan Godsil
  • DT Dare Odeyingbo
  • LB Sterling Sheffield
  • DE Immanuel Turner
  • K Tristan Vizcaino
