FC Cincinnati regains first place with 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls II

HARRISON, N.J. – FC Cincinnati regained first place Saturday with a 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls II.

Second-half goals by Emmanuel Ledesma and Danni König gave Red Bulls II their first home loss of the year. Ledesma and Konig share the team lead in goals with five.

FC Cincinnati (7-3-2, 23 points) climbed over Louisville (22 points) and Charleston (20 points) in the Eastern Conference of the United Soccer League. Both have byes this weekend.

Amando Moreno’s seventh-minute goal kept New York (4-3-5, 17 points) on top through intermission, but  Ledesma tied it up in the 65th minute with a cheeky curling shot up and over the New York goalkeeper.

König nailed it in the 77th minute after Nazmi Albadawi battled to keep the play alive.

FC Cincinnati returns to the field at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against a Major League Soccer foe, Minnesota United FC, in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup at Nippert Stadium. The  game will be televised live on TV Star 64 (WSTR) and also streamed on ussoccer.com.

NOTES: Blake Smith setting up Ledesma’s game-tying goal. Smith returned to the field after missing last game May 26 vs. Louisville City FC with an ankle injury ... Club captain Dekel Keinan missed the game while serving a one-game yellow-card accumulation suspension after picking up his fifth caution of the season last Saturday ... Assistant coach Yoann Damet also was unavailable on Alan Koch’s bench after serving a one-game suspension following his sending off last Saturday against Louisville CIty FC.
