CINCINNATI -- Kenny Simpson has a van for nearly every Cincinnati sports team.
He has a Bengals van, a Bearcats van and a Reds van.
Simpson, who says he’s loved Cincinnati sports his whole life, knew he had to add an FC Cincinnati van to his fleet.
But before he adds an orange and blue van he’s waiting to see whether the team gets an MLS bid.
“So if we get the big bid than I’m gonna go big,” Simpson said. “If we get regular then I’m just gonna get me a regular van to start up slow and build it up.”
Simpson started designing his FC Cincy van when the team first announced they were going for the bid. He’s already picked out custom stickers and flags. Now he’s just waiting, and he’s not alone. The possibility has been a rollercoaster for devout fans.
“So I’m all perked up, and I’m looking at the news waiting in the morning… at 4 a.m., 5 a.m. news, seeing if we got the bid,” Simpson said.
FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding said Friday there is no news regarding an MLS bid, but he said he thinks “we’ll have some news before too long.”
For now, fans are left with rumors that MLS officials could announce something within a week or that the board won’t vote until their next official meeting in August.
“By August at least I’ll be into football season, so at least I’ll have a little something to keep off my mind,” Simpson said.
