CINCINNATI – Xavier held its No. 4 ranking but UC fell from No. 5 to No. 11 in the college basketball polls Monday after losses last week.
Xavier kept its No. 3 ranking in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, while UC fell from eighth to 11th. Kentucky is 18th, Ohio State 20th and Northern Kentucky 115th.
Xavier (24-4) broke a nine-game winning streak when it lost to No. 3 Villanova 95-79 at Cintas Center on Saturday. The Musketeers were 16-0 at home this season until losing to the Wildcats. Xavier beat Seton Hall 102-90 there earlier in the week.
UC (23-4) lost twice, snapping a 16-game winning streak at Houston 67-62, followed by a home loss to No. 19 Wichita State 76-72 Sunday at BB&T Arena. The second loss broke a 39-game home winning streak, longest in Division I.
Wichita State (21-5) and Houston (21-5) benefited from being UC. Wichita State moved up to 12th in this week’s USA Today poll, 13th in Associated Press. Houston, unranked last week, climbed to No. 23 in both polls.
The polls disagree on who’s No. 1. AP picks Virginia (24-2); USA Today picks Michigan State (26-3).
Ohio State (22-7) is ranked 15th by USAT, 16th by AP.
