CINCINNATI -- The Reds have hired Derek Johnson from the Milwaukee Brewers as their new pitching coach, the team announced Friday.
Johnson spent the past three seasons in Milwaukee, where the team earned a cumulative 3.94 ERA, fourth-best in the National League.
Before that, Johnson was the minor league pitching coordinator for the Chicago Cubs for three seasons. He was a college pitching coach before that. Thirteen college pitchers Johnson mentored have appeared in the majors.
Johnson is the first new coach hired under new Reds manager David Bell.
