ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Like many businesses in the pandemic, the Bird's Nest daycare in Anderson Township made some changes in the past few months. But the Bird's Nest went from offering childcare to something a little sweeter.
The daycare center is now called Bird's Sweets and Treats, and it offers funky ice cream flavors and candy.
Some people threw owners Harrison and Kasy Bird strange looks, though, when they opened an ice cream shop in the middle of winter. But the Birds said this was planned. Now, families don't have to wait for creamy whips in the area to open in a few months.
One of the frozen treats offered at Bird's Sweets and Treats is called a Dole Whip, which visitors to Disneyland might recognize.
"It is dairy-free, it is very fruity, very delicious," manager Lisa Lovell said. "It comes in pineapple, strawberry and lemon, and we rotate those flavors out every 48 hours or so. And it is the best stuff. It is stuff you would get if you go on vacation..."
Bird's Sweets and Treats is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays. There is space inside their shop for people to sit and enjoy their treat, and come summer they hope to offer outdoor seating, too.
