FORT MITCHELL, Ky. — Sheli Truss-Karim has been serving comfort through food in Northern Kentucky for more than 20 years.

"You can have our delicious comfort food, which I always say is our meatloaf, shepherds pie, which is an original recipe," said Truss-Karim, owner of Behle Street by Sheli.

On the lighter side, she added, "I think we've got the best salads anywhere."

Up until about five years ago, Truss-Karim operated two Behle Street locations -- the main restaurant inside RiverCenter in Covington and a catering kitchen inside Fort Mitchell Station at 2220 Grandview Drive in Fort Mitchell.

Truss-Karim said when she consolidated everything to the Fort Mitchell location, she added about 50 dine-in seats.

"Well, originally my business model was carryout/curbside/caterings," she said. "So, we just had to delete the dine-in for right now."

That is the reason she and her staff of eight have continued to offer the same level of service as they did before Kentucky placed restrictions on dine-in service to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

"I've got 70-plus menu items," Truss-Karim said. "We offer the full menu."

Since restrictions were put in place, that menu has attracted people from as far away as Dayton, Ohio, on afternoon drives looking for carryout.

Truss-Karim added that the menu also has attracted large catering orders from local companies wanting to feed their workers.

"I think under the current circumstances people are trying to make sure that their people that are coming to work these days are getting a little bonus or a little bit of extra love," she said.

Truss-Karim said that love has even been returned to her employees by friends and loyal customers who are both concerned for those workers' safety and grateful for what they do.

"I have a friend who made everyone fun masks to wear," she said.

Behle Street will personally deliver orders within a 15-mile radius of the restaurant and is open daily from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. for curbside pickup.
