HEBRON, Ky. — The Tri-State may be covered in snow, but Allegiant Air is readying passengers for summer travel with a new nonstop route from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The ultra-low cost carrier on Tuesday announced service between CVG and Norfolk International Airport (ORF) — the gateway to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. Seasonal flights start in June.

Allegiant expects to serve more than 3,460 passengers between the two cities, spokesman Zach Kramer told WCPO. Allegiant has seen a great deal of success at CVG, he said, and officials on both sides lauded the release.

Allegiant is the first airline to offer nonstop flights to Norfolk International since Delta in March 2012. The route announcement is CVG's first in 2019.

“We’re very excited to announce this service,” Drew Wells, Allegiant vice president of planning and revenue, said. “We’re sure area travelers will appreciate the opportunity to conveniently travel to Norfolk, the gateway to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks.”

Flights, which start June 7, will operate on a twice-weekly Friday and Monday schedule using Airbus A319/320 aircraft, which seat between 155 and 186 passengers, Kramer said. Flight times are available at Allegiant.com.

To celebrate the route, Allegiant is offering limited $49 one-way fares. Flights must be purchased by Jan. 16 for travel by Aug. 13. CVG is one of Allegiant's largest markets. The Las-Vegas based airline will celebrate five years here in February, and Norfolk will mark its 20th destination.

“We are excited to support (Allegiant's) continued growth," said Candace McGraw, CVG chief executive officer. "The Norfolk/Virginia Beach area is a fantastic vacation destination option for passengers in our region."
