In preparation for the Brent Spence Bridge reopening, crews will have to restrict lanes on I-71/75 as long as weather allows for the work to be done.
Starting at 10:00 a.m. Sunday until around 2:00 p.m., the highway will be down to one lane north of Burlington Pike, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. KYTC said delays for drivers are likely.
After this work is completed, travel will be restored to the previous travel pattern tapering traffic down to one lane at the I-275 interchange.
On Wednesday, KYTC secretary Jim Gray said the Brent Spence Bridge repairs were still on track for the bridge to reopen on Dec. 23. When the bridge reopens, however, it won't completely reopen to full traffic levels all at once, KYTC District 6 chief engineer Bob Yeager said on Wednesday.
Repair work began last month shortly after two semitrailers crashed on the bridge's northbound lower deck, igniting an intense chemical fire that damaged a portion of the southbound upper deck, prompting the bridge's closure on Nov. 11.
