CLINTON COUNTY, Ohio -- A 16-year-old driver’s attempt to pass another car led to a fiery crash killed a mother and her baby and damaged four vehicles, according to Lt. Stan Jordan.
The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. Monday and shut down State Route 134 for hours overnight. The two passengers in the teen’s car, 20-year-old Wendy Brewer and her daughter, 14-month-old Arialla Brewer, died at the scene, according to the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.
The 16-year-old, of Martinsville, Ohio, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on when he tried to pass another driver in a 2016 Dodge Caravan. The teen driver rear-ended the Dodge Caravan and went left of the centerline, hitting a third driver head on. A fourth driver, driving a 2000 Ford Taurus, struck the teen driver, and the teen’s car caught fire.
First responders transported the teenage driver to Miami Valley Hospital in a medical helicopter.
First responders transported one other driver to Clinton Memorial Hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.
Officials don’t know if alcohol or drug use contributed to the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
