COLUMBUS, Ohio — An early morning shooting near the Ohio State University has left one person injured, Columbus police said. The suspect is still at large.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., the victim was standing in a McDonald's parking lot at 1972 N. High St when a suspect fired at him several times. The victim was struck once in the thigh before the suspect fled.
Police identified the victim as 21-year-old Wesley N. Powers, Jr. He was transported to OSU Hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
Ohio State University Emergency Management sent an active attacker alert to students during the incident. An all-clear was given at 2:02 a.m.
Police said this was "no random act" and that the suspect "targeted" the victim, according to a tweet from school officials.
