WALTON, Ky. -- A driver was killed in a crash on Interstate 75 in Walton early Wednesday.

A 2000 Honda Civic driven by 62-year-old David Marshall, of Louisville, was traveling northbound in the left lane at about 1:26 a.m. when the car came to a stop, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. A 2017 Chevy Traverse driven by a Beavercreek, Ohio, man then struck the Civic as it was sitting un-illuminated in the left lane.

The impact sent the Civic across the entire roadway to the right lane, while the Traverse hit the concrete wall next to the left emergency lane, deputies said.

Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old passenger in the Traverse was driven to St. Elizabeth Florence for evaluation of a minor back injury, deputies said.

Investigators had not yet determined why Marshall stopped in the left lane. They didn't immediately know if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

No charges have been filed.

The highway was closed for more than two hours as investigators worked the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Deputies asked any witnesses to call 859-334-2175.
