LAUREL, Ind. — Five people are dead and one is still missing after floodwaters swept away a bridge and two vehicles in Franklin County, Indiana.

At approximately 5 a.m., officers responded to a report of headlights off the roadway and cries for help near Sanes Creek and Tee Hill Road.

Officers found the bridge over Sanes Creek had partially washed away from floodwaters, according to a state Department of Natural Resources spokesperson.

Authorities initially found two vehicles Friday with four deceased occupants. Crews recovered a fifth victim from the creek at approximately 3 p.m.

Search operations for the sixth person have been suspended Friday night and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities did not release the identities of the victims.

Indiana Conservation Officers, Franklin County Fire Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Laurel Police and Fire, Metamora Police and Fire and Franklin County EMS assisted with the search Friday.
