ELSMERE, Ky. — More than three years later, police have finally made an arrest in the double killings of an Elsmere couple in their home.

A Covington man, 54-year-old Charles Eapmon, is charged with two counts of murder in the shootings of Douglas Eapmon and Carolyn Ann Tomlinson in April, 2016, on Merravay Drive. The victims had four children, neighbors told WCPO at the time.

Charles Eapmon shot the couple in the head and stole their safe, according to court documents. One person told investigators Eapmon confessed to the killings, and a second person said he heard two shots and saw Eapmon run to his car carrying a gun and a safe. That person said he helped Eapmon open the safe and later dispose of the safe and gun.

The victims' bodies were found in their home on April 6, 2016.

Eapmon was arrested Monday in Covington, according to court documents.

Eapmon is also charged with tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond and is scheduled in court on Dec. 17.

Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders has announced a news conference for 3 p.m. Thursday to provide more details.
