WARSAW, Ky. — The Ohio River is closed at the Markland Locks and Dam for a second day Thursday due to an accident involving a barge.
The latest accident happened at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday. The river is closed to navigation traffic, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as crews recover a damaged barge.
Another 18 barges are waiting to pass the dam, a spokesperson told WCPO. The river is expected to be open later Thursday or early Friday.
Earlier on Wednesday, an incident involving a barge held up traffic on the river. Video from Chopper 9 shows a barge blocking the Ohio River. That accident was cleared.
The Markland Locks and Dam is located about four miles downstream from Warsaw, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The navigation locks are located on the Kentucky side of the river.
