HANOVER, Ind. -- A Madison man is turning to social media to find the daughter he lost decades ago.

Jerry Miller's daughter was born in December 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington. Shortly after, Miller suffered a brain aneurysm and needed surgery. The baby girl was given up for adoption.

"When they took that baby out of my arms, a piece of me left right that day," he said.

It's been about 40 years since he's seen her.

"It's not easy to talk about," Miller said. "It's not easy to wonder every day if she's OK, what's going on in her life. It's real painful."

Miller tried to find her once before, but that came up without much luck. An agency told him the adoption records were sealed.

"You had it in your heart all these years," Miller's wife, Brenda Miller, said. "Then our oldest daughter said they might try social media. They just started on that last night."

A Facebook post was shared thousands of times. Miller is hopeful it'll work.

"I know I can't be daddy because of all the years, but she can be a part of the family," he said. "That's been missing ... I just need to know that she's alright, and I can have peace of mind before I die."
