RISING SUN, Ind. — Funeral services have been set for the Rising Sun police chief who was killed in a crash last week.

David Hewitt, 49, was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash on State Road 56 at about 7:20 a.m. Feb. 13. Investigators believe icy road conditions contributed to the crash.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rising Sun High School, according to Markland Funeral Home.

Hewitt spent 27 years in law enforcement in southeast Indiana, serving as Rising Sun's police chief since 2004.

"He was very well-liked in the community," Rising Sun police Sgt. Frank McIntosh said. "A very good leader, a motivator of people, all-around great guy."

Hewitt also leaves behind a family, including a wife and children.

The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with more information about the crash to contact the department at 812-427-3636.
