SUNMAN, Ind. — A special prosecutor will review Saturday's officer-involved shooting in Dearborn County.
Dearborn Circuit Judge James Humphrey appointed Ric Hertel, the prosecuting attorney in neighboring Ripley County, to the case, Dearborn County Prosecuting Attorney Lynn Deddens announced Monday.
Christopher Schmitt, 58, was shot by law enforcement responding to a report of a disturbance on Fire Point Road after he pointed a gun at them, according to Indiana State Police.
Schmitt later died at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, troopers said.
