AURORA, Ind. -- The magnitude of Hillforest is evident.

Hillforest Victorian House Museum, a National Historic Landmark, towers over the Ohio River from a large bluff. The historic home plays an important role for residents and those who visit this river city.

The home, originally built by the Gaff family in the mid-1800s, is a “treasure” for Aurora and Dearborn County, City Manager Guinevere Emery said.

“We have tour buses that come up this hill and park on this little side street,” Emery said.

The mansion’s steamboat balcony offers stunning views of the rolling hills that surround the river. The home is more than a tourist attraction; people have held weddings and events on the property.

Hillforest is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1992.

Jennifer Ketchmark made a stop in Aurora during her latest segment of Katch Ketchmark.
