LAWRENCEBURG TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- A fire destroyed a log home early Sunday at Hidden Valley Lake.

A father and son lived in the home on the 19000 block of Longview Drive.

They woke up when their smoke alarms sounded at about 3 a.m. and got out safely.

Fire hydrants were too far, so firefighters used tankers to bring in water.

The home's log construction, as well as the location itself, made firefighters' work harder, Greendale Fire Capt. Thomas Craig said.

"With the terrain we had, so it was definitely a challenge, but we got it taken care of," Craig said.

The father and son said they lost everything. Neighbors stepped in to help them in the fire's aftermath.

There's no word yet on what sparked the fire.
