DILLSBORO, Ind. — DILLSBORO, Ind. — A weekend graduation party in rural Dearborn County ended with an 18-year-old guest shot to death and the graduate’s father, 47-year-old William Baker, charged with murder.

According to Dearborn County deputies, Baker spent Sunday celebrating his son’s graduation from South Dearborn High School. Eighteen-year-old Paycin Kritlow, a friend and classmate of the son’s, attended the party and joined the family in outdoor games.

The party continued into the night. Around 1:24 a.m., guests gathered near the garage heard a boom.

Kritlow had been shot to death in the driveway.

Baker confessed to the crime when police arrived, according to deputies. He claimed a female family member had accused Kritlow of sexually assaulting her. In response, he said, he immediately retrieved a rifle from inside his home, fixed Kritlow in the scope and fired.

The female family member told police she never made any such comments and did not know of anyone else who would have done so at the party.

Baker was arrested and held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
