COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Lawmakers passed a bill Wednesday that would require aborted fetuses to be individually buried or cremated.

The Ohio Senate approved the Unborn Child Dignity Act (Senate Bill 254) after state officials questioned methods of disposing of the remains.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine accused Planned Parenthood of hiring a company to dispose of fetal remains in landfills following a state investigation in December.

Planned Parenthood called DeWine’s report “inflammatory and false,” saying the organization never knowingly sent fetal remains to landfills.

Burial and cremation laws in the U.S. vary by state.

SB 254 now goes to state representatives for approval before being taken to Gov. John Kasich.
