ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Your beloved Christmas tree doesn't have to end up in a landfill. It can be put to a different, greener use.
The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District wants to turn your tree and other holiday greenery into mulch or compost.
Three drop-off sites will be open over the next two weekends to all county residents:
East: Bzak Landscaping - 3295 Turpin Lane (off Route 32), Anderson Township
West: Kuliga Park - 6717 Bridgetown Road, Green Township
North: Rumpke Landfill - Struble Road and Colerain Avenue, Colerain Township
The facilities are open from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 13.
Here are some guidelines before you load your tree for transport:
- Residents should remove all ornaments, tinsel, tree bags, etc.
- Brush and tree branches from the yard should be cut into lengths of 4 feet or less. Branches must not exceed 1 foot in diameter.
- Bundle brush and tree branches with twine. Bundles must not be heavier than 50 pounds.
- Bring yard trimmings to the location in containers or bags. Brown paper bags are preferred. Containers and plastic bags will be returned.
The service is open to Hamilton County residents only. Be sure to bring proof of residency.
