Supporters of President Donald Trump, who continues to falsely claim he won the 2020 presidential election, stormed the United States Capitol during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021. The session had been held to confirm the election of President-elect Joe Biden; the insurrection forced members of Congress to suspend the proceedings and flee.
