MASON, Ohio -- Mason City Schools are mourning one of the district's high school students. Mary Scheeler, a junior, died Sept. 28 after a motorist struck her while she was riding her bicycle the previous night, according to school officials.

The district released details of Mary’s funeral on its Facebook page. A visitation will be held Friday at Christ Church in Mason where Mary performed ballet. A viewing for students begins at 3 p.m. The public is welcome starting at 6 p.m.

A mass to honor Mary begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mueller Funeral Home on Tylersville Road. Mary will be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery following the mass.

“We are so grateful for the impact that MHS junior Mary Scheeler had on our lives,” the school district posted to Facebook.

Mary, 18, was hit by a vehicle while riding her bike in the area of Mason Montgomery Road and Bethany Road, according to Mason police. She was transported to West Chester Hospital, then flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said. The crash is under investigation.

Mary, who had Down syndrome, loved riding her bike, playing basketball, and Doc McStuffins, according to Mason City Schools.
