LEBANON, Ohio -- An early morning house fire in Warren County turned fatal, leaving one man dead at the scene.
Around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Lebanon police and fire departments responded to reports of a fire and possible entrapment at 405 Kuntz Court. They found the house fully engulfed in smoke and tried to rescue 66-year-old Wilson Scott Thacker, who was dead when responders reached him.
Crews say the fire was mostly in a back bedroom of the home. Firefighters suspect the fire started on the bed the man was lying on, potentially from a lit cigarette, but they cannot say for sure at the moment.
Police say Thacker lived with his elderly mother, Madeline Thacker, who was able to make it out of the home. The state fire marshal will be on the scene later Thursday to determine the cause of the blaze.
