LEBANON, Ohio – Former Springboro police Lt. Jim Barton was released from jail Friday
Barton was released from Warren County jail after posting bond, which a judge had set at $350,000. He was fitted with an ankle bracelet that he will have to wear until his next trial.
The former police officer is facing charges related to the 1995 rape and murder of his wife, Vickie Barton. He was accused of hiring the men to commit a burglary. The men ended up botching the burglary and killing Vickie.
Barton was convicted in 2005 of aggravated burglary and involuntary manslaughter, but the conviction was overturned in federal court last year because authorities improperly withheld evidence, judges ruled.
Prosecutors are going to try to convict Barton again. A trial is scheduled to begin in September.
