A semi truck struck and killed a man who ran into traffic during an OVI stop on I-71, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Saturday.

At about 3:20 a.m., troopers stopped 31-year-old Jonathon Richards of Hamilton on I-71 in Fayette County for speeding and marked lane violations.

Police said they suspected Richards had been driving impaired and arrested him for OVI and for an outstanding warrant out of Butler County.

During the arrest, police say, Richards got away from officers and ran out into southbound traffic, where a passing semi truck killed him.

OSHP’s Wilmington Post is investigating the crash.
