COVINGTON, Ky. — Kenton County police announced Wednesday that a man who was mistakenly released from the Kenton County Detention Center has been found and returned to the jail.

Sergeant Chris Haddle, public information officer with the Kenton County Police, said Jacob Baxter was arrested on a warrant for escape and theft of identity Wednesday afternoon. He was returned to the jail at around 1:40 p.m., Haddle said.

Baxter was incorrectly released from the jail Saturday afternoon, after giving different fake names at different times during his incarceration.

A press release from Kenton County Police about the escape said Baxter used the fake name Mason Pew when he was initially arrested on Friday, and he was lodged in the Kenton County Detention Center under that name. Police said he then claimed to be another inmate set for release on Saturday, and officials released him.

Baxter was initially arrested by Ft. Wright Police on charges of receiving stolen property, and Kenton County police have given no indication that Baxter is considered dangerous, or a threat to the community.
