FORT WRIGHT, Ky. -- The man killed on Interstate 71/75 near Kyles Lane Friday morning was thrown from his SUV in a crash, and did not walk onto the highway as investigators previously believed, police announced Monday.

Brian Wallace, 31, was driving his 2007 Suzuki XL7 southbound on the interstate when he hit the rear of another SUV, then veered sharply to the right and hit a guardrail, according to Kenton County police. Wallace was thrown from the vehicle in the crash, and he came to rest in travel lanes of the interstate.

Wallace had not been wearing his seatbelt, police said.

In the roadway, Wallace was hit by an unknown Volvo tractor-trailer and a Honda Odyssey. Police said they don't know if the tractor-trailer's driver realized they'd hit someone. The driver of the minivan stopped, and was rear-ended by a car. Nobody in either of those vehicles was hurt.

The Kenton County Police Department's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the incident. They asked any witnesses to call 859-392-1943.
