CRESCENT SPRINGS, Ky. -- Wind gusts fueled a fire that destroyed a Kenton County home early Friday morning.

Three people are displaced after a fire started at about 1:40 a.m. in the garage of their home on 2500 Nordman Drive, according to Jeff Wendt, Crescent Springs/Villa Hill Fire Chief.

Wendt said the fire spread up to the attic, which caused the first floor to collapse into the garage. No one was home when the fire started, and no one was hurt.

“The wind was a big factor,” Wendt said. “The direction of the wind came through the back of the house and just like a fireplace kept feeding the fire more and more.”

Georgia Carol Quebdeaux has lived in the home for almost a decade.

"We're all safe and alive that's great, materialistic things can be replaced, but when you don't have nothing and have nowhere to go … it's another story,” Quebdeaux said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
