COVINGTON, Ky. — Sorry, no money or jewels.

The 150-year-old safe was empty except for a few journals titled "Daily Record of Concrete Pavement." The books were blank.

A safecracker from ACME Lock Company opened the long-locked safe in just minutes Thursday morning at the Covington branch of the Kenton County Public Library. The Roebling Bridge Historic Safe hadn’t been opened in more than six decades.

The safe was empty except for a few books (left). The journals were titled "Daily Record of Concrete Pavement."

The safe had been pulled from storage at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet earlier this year. Historians believe the safe is from the 1860s or 1870s, according to a news release.

The contents will be examined by the library’s local history staff and put on display.
