COVINGTON, Ky. — Kenton County Police are looking for a wanted man who allegedly escaped a traffic stop by ramming his vehicle into a police cruiser Tuesday night.

Officers were searching for a vehicle that had fled another agency and located it Tuesday around 10 p.m. near KY-3035 and Richardson Road. The driver fled, leading police on a short pursuit before he stopped on Worthington Road.

As an officer approached the vehicle, police said the driver put the car in reverse and rammed the officer’s vehicle as he was approaching. The officer fired shots at the driver, who fled on foot. It is unclear if any shots struck the suspect.

Police identified the suspect Wednesday as 26-year-old David J. Hammond of Louisville.

A warrant for Hammond’s arrest has been issued, including one count of attempted first degree assault on a police officer, two counts of first degree wanton endangerment, one count of fleeing or evading police, reckless driving and two counts disregarding traffic control devices.

Anyone with information about Hammond’s whereabouts is asked to call the Kenton County Police Department at (859) 392-1940 or Kenton County Emergency Communications (dispatch) at (859) 356-3191.
