COVINGTON, Ky. — A popular MainStrasse restaurant has closed its doors.

Owners Chris and Tess Burns announced the closure of Commonwealth Bistro on Facebook Wednesday morning, saying they are closing the restaurant “due to circumstances beyond our control.”

Commonwealth Bistro, located at 612 Main St., opened in October 2016 and was beloved for its contemporary farmstead cuisine made from locally-sourced ingredients.

The restaurant, like many in Greater Cincinnati, closed down in the early stages of the pandemic in spring 2020. The Burnses reopened Commonwealth in May 2020 with a focus on carryout items and a new point-of-sale system that allowed them to manage online orders.

The couple also owned Yonder, a bar adjacent to Commonwealth that they opened in 2019.

The owners said they did not want to speak at the time this article published, as they were processing the decision to close the restaurant.
