COVINGTON, Ky. — In a statement released on Tuesday, Covington Independent Public Schools Superintendent Alvin Garrison revealed that the start of the 2019-2020 school year has been moved back to Tuesday, Sept. 3.

He attributed the delay to a burst pipe that caused significant water damage to the John G. Carlisle Elementary School. The Holmes Campus and the district's alternative programs were also damaged, according to the statement.

The Covington Board of Education will revise the calendar for the school year and approve the changes later this month. Parents and guardians can expect to see the updated schedule at that time.
