If you hear emergency sirens wailing in the middle of a clear summer day, don’t panic — at least not right away.
Hamilton County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency workers started upgrading the countywide system on Monday, according to spokesperson Emily Johnson.
The process, which she estimated would take around three weeks, will sometimes involve activating the sirens for brief periods of time.
Johnson said workers would monitor weather conditions throughout the project and avoid activating the sirens on severe weather days to reduce the risk of confusion.
