Driver hospitalized, officer injured after rescuing man from burning car

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A person has been hospitalized and an officer injured after officers pulled an unconscious man from a burning car Saturday night in Sycamore Township.

According to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's office, a deputy stopped to assist a car that appeared to have driven into a wooded area behind the First Church of God on the 8000 block of Fields Ertel Road around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the release, the deputy recognized that the driver was unconscious and in a medical emergency. The vehicle was still in drive against a pile of wood and debris with the engine revving and smoking. Officials said the vehicle almost immediately caught fire with the driver still inside. A City of Montgomery police officer responded to assist the deputy and both were able to rescue the driver.

The driver was transported to Bethesda North Hospital to be treated for burns and other medical issues. The City of Montgomery police officer receiving burns to his hands and arms and was treated at Bethesda North Hospital and released. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy was not injured.
