NORWOOD, Ohio — Superintendent Dr. Kathy Sabo passed away over the weekend following her battle with cancer, according to the Norwood City School District.
"Dr. Sabo was so proud to serve in her hometown as the Superintendent of Norwood City School District," a district statement read. "She loved this community and what was best for kids was at the heart of every decision she made. We share our deepest condolences with her family and with everyone who knew her."
The school announced Sept. 25 that Sabo was taking medical leave due to health issues.
Mary Ronan, a former superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools, had been appointed interim superintendent of the district. Ronan served as superintendent of CPS from 2008 until she retired in 2017.
Cincinnati Public Schools Board President Carolyn Jones offered condolences to Norwood staff and students in a statement on Monday.
“Dr. Sabo was a student, a teacher, and a principal in the Norwood City Schools before serving as Superintendent, and her love for her hometown and her students was evident. She will be missed,” Jones said.
