SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — To curb “disruptive behavior by unsupervised youth” during the holiday shopping season’s final stretch, Kenwood Towne Centre will implement a mandatory curfew for teens starting Dec. 26.
During “Parental Guidance Required” hours, those under 18 will not be allowed to walk through Kenwood Towne Centre, its parking lots or exterior walkways without a guardian.
One adult can accompany up to four young people, though there is no limit for the number of children under 10 that one adult can accompany, mall officials said Thursday. The adult must remain with them at all times.
Mall officials said security officers will be checking IDs, and those who show proper identification proving they are 18 or over will be offered an optional wristband so as not to be pulled aside again.
One shopper said they understand the need for some parental supervision, but they think the cutoff age should be 16.
"I understand a younger kid, like 12 and under or something. 16 and under even,” Carter Diamond, a Kenwood Towne Center customer said. "If they are old enough to have a license, if you’re old enough to drive, you should be old enough to go to the mall."
“All are welcome at Kenwood Towne Centre. We just require that young guests have adult supervision during certain hours during this busy time,” Senior General Manager Wanda Wagner said in a news release Thursday.
Mandatory curfew hours begin tonight for juveniles at the Kenwood Towne Centre. That means those under 18 will have to have adult supervision to be at the mall. Curfew goes into affect at noon today, but has varying hours through the end of the year. What do you think? @WCPO

- Thursday, Dec. 26 after noon.
- Friday, Dec. 27 after 4 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 28 after 4 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 29 after 2 p.m.
- Monday, Dec. 30 after 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 31 after 2 p.m.
Mall staff will make an announcement one hour before the curfew starts so anyone under 18 can finish shopping or dining.
