FOREST PARK, Ohio — Police shut down westbound Interstate 275 Tuesday morning after a fatal crash involving two cars, a semi-trailer and a man standing outside his disabled vehicle in the center lane of the highway.

At 4:30 a.m., a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis became disabled in the center lane of I-275, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Two commercial vehicles, a 2020 Volvo and a freightliner, were also driving in the center lane. The driver of the Volvo swerved to avoid the disabled Grand Marquis but failed to do so.

Police said the driver of the freightliner "failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead" and then struck the rear of the Volvo. Both vehicles crashed into the Grand Marquis as well as the driver standing outside of his vehicle in the roadway. The freightliner traveled off the left side of the highway and overturned in the median.

The man standing outside the Grand Marquis, 42-year-old Timmy Burke of Cincinnati, died at the scene. There was no word on any other injuries.

Police closed the highway between Winton Road and Hamilton Avenue around 5 a.m. The highway has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
