COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A Colerain veteran has plans to upgrade his community's military memorial.

Chris Green said he believes Colerain Township's memorial is too small, so he's raising money to try to put in a larger one. His model calls for a new veterans memorial with 16 soldier statues, 16 black granite engraved benches, 19 flag poles and a 24-foot walkway lined with flags from each branch of the military.

Green has proposed to put the memorial near the township administration building. He estimated it could cost as much as $1 million, which he's funding with private donations.

He's hoping to get the first phase of the memorial done by this year's Veterans Day.

"It's a big goal, but I have high hopes," he said.

American Legion Post 513 in Mount Healthy will host an Armed Forces Day fundraiser on May 19. Funds from a charity softball game between Colerain police and firefighters/EMTs on June 3 at the Olympian Club on Pippin Road will also support the effort. Green said they're also taking donations online.
